Marks of Hand

Scribbles and doodles and pictures galore make up this section of the exhibit. These marks of hand are always interesting to find and in ways can tell us more about the past readers than an inscription can. For instance, what would tell you more about a child's personality- a drawing of a pirate ship or an inscription of their name? While the name does contain a slim possibility that you could research who the child was, the drawing gives you a more immediate idea of their interests, talents and more. Keep this in mind as you look through the images and try to imagine what the child reader was like.
